Forming in a seafoam green haze at first, then slowly becoming more defined and detailed, with sparks of shiny gold paint, this butterfly seems to have appeared out of nowhere, like a vision in your mind's eye. Signed and hand-stamped with the word daydreams across the top of the wings. The canvas is wrapped with a twist, in matching green vintage millinery ribbon and embellished with a unique hand-wired, beaded bauble hanging from the top.
 
This painted insect is a specimen from my Notes to Self collection, my own cabinet of curiosities, inspired by antique book illustrations of the natural world & the collections of entomologists. Each insect specimen represents one of my own “wonders of the world,”  concepts such as magic and mystery, emotions like joy, physical phenomenons like sunlight - these are the dreamy things that I don’t want to forget when times are tough. I’ve painted each insect in a way that conjures the feeling of these things for me, and hand-stamped the word that inspired the painting onto it.
